Montalto Restaurant

We took advantage of a sunny afternoon and made our way to Montalto Winery in Red Hill.
The restaurant was excellent, with great food and refreshing country views.
Ambience: Warm, country setting. Good-sized tables and excellent cutlery/glasses.
Waitstaff: Helpful, efficient and friendly.
Food: Very solid modern Australian with a slight French twist. Not mind-blowing flavours, but well above many city restaurants. The highlights were the warm olive bread, pork trotter, lentils and very good caramelised onions. Matched wines were excellent. It was great to have a walk around the winery between main course and dessert (souffle!).
Rating: A great relaxing getaway. 7.5/10. A post-lunch walk along Merricks Beach is highly recommended.
